Part of a two shoe, pinnacle race day shoe line up, the ASICS Metaspeed Sky Tokyo is designed for runners who speed up by increasing the number of strides you take and helps conserve energy with every step.

The ASICS Metaspeed Sky Tokyo updates the Previous Paris version with a brand-new foam in the midsole, called FF Leap. Used in the top of the midsole for more cushioning and higher energy return, the top layer uses the same FF TURBO PLUS from previous versions. Designed this way around you get enhanced responsiveness and improved stability at mid-stance.Thanks to the carbon plate running through the midsole you can conserve energy, preventing heel drop while generating forward propulsion. The MOTIONWRAP 3.0 upper is lightweight and made from a technical engineered woven fabric for precise lockdown, in the outsole ASICSGRIP provides advanced traction across a range of terrains.

Carbon Plate

Carbon plates have well-researched benefits and a seemingly endless list of race wins and world records.

They create the firmer feel that fast racers are looking for and help to guide the foot through your stride, providing a touch of extra support. They can also help create a rocker feel, with the stiffness allowing the shoe to pivot – as the toe goes down, the heel must come up, easing you into your next stride.

Although stiff, they do flex, providing an energised pop of forward momentum as the plate fights to retain its shape.

Each brand, and almost every shoe, uses a plate differently. Different shapes, thicknesses, and designs are used to prioritise a different aspect of performance. Some aim exclusively to guide the stride, while others focus solely on propulsion.

Regular Cushioning

Regular cushioning offers a blend of lightness, comfort, and ground feel. Popular for shorter distance racing as well as training and daily mileage running, the lower stack of midsole foam offers inherent stability and a lighter feel on your foot when compared to max-stack shoes.

Neutral

Neutral running shoes are designed to provide a smooth sensation without correcting your gait. They allow your natural motion to flow, while still offering a snug fit and a cushioned feel underfoot. As such, they’re ideal for runners who don’t overpronate.

ASICS

Creators of one of the first marathon-specific shoes back in 1953, ASICS have a firmly established history in running, with their reputation for technical excellence spreading far beyond the borders of their home base in Japan.

They remain hugely successful in the 26-mile distance, where their renowned GEL technology is popular for its ability to absorb impacts and help reduce injuries.

ASICS also produce excellent shoes for overpronators, as embodied by their flagship series, the Kayano, a long-distance structured shoe that’s been keeping runners comfortable since ’93.

Their newer Fast series includes the explosive Novablast. Ditching the slightly heavier GEL for lightweight but propulsive materials, they make the most of every moment over shorter distances.
